A Neewer teleprompter app alternative
Neewer's glass rigs are popular and good value, but the app that comes with them gets poor reviews. Reframely runs in the browser on the phone or tablet in your Neewer rig, with no account and nothing to install.
Step by step: set up a glass teleprompter rig
- Lay the screen under the glass. Put your phone or tablet face up in the tray, under the angled glass. The camera sits behind the glass and films straight through it.
- Pick your rig in Reframely. Open the sliders and choose Your rig. Tablet or Phone in a glass rig mirrors the text, so it reads the right way round in the glass.
- Turn the brightness all the way up. Beam-splitter glass passes only part of the light, so the reflection is dimmer than the screen. Full brightness and a darker room keep the words crisp.
- Check it through the camera. Look at the camera’s screen, not the tablet. If the hood’s edge shows in a wide shot, zoom in a little or widen the side margins. Then pair a clicker or your phone and press play.
What Neewer owners report
The Neewer Teleprompter app averages 2.1 out of 5 in one review analysis, and most of the feedback is negative (JustUseApp). The recurring complaints:
- The remote won't pair with the app, or pairs with the iPad but doesn't control the script.
- Crashes on launch, when opening documents, and while editing.
- Text cut off at the edges, paragraphs out of order, or scripts that show only the first lines.
- The scroller loops back to the start instead of stopping at the end.
- Trouble importing scripts, and an account some users couldn't log back into.
Neewer lists its RT113 remote for the Neewer app, and its setup notes ask Android users to turn on Location Services before pairing (Neewer).
How Reframely handles each one
| What goes wrong | In Reframely |
|---|---|
| Remote doesn't control the script | Use your second phone as the remote, or map your clicker's buttons in Clicker setup |
| Text cut off at the edges | Side margins slider and text size, kept when you rotate the screen |
| Scroll loops to the start | Stops at the end by default; looping is an option you turn on |
| Can't import scripts | Import .docx, .txt, .md and .rtf files, or paste |
| Account problems | No account. Scripts are saved in your browser |
| Crashes lose your edits | Unsaved edits are kept as a draft and restored |
Set up your Neewer rig
- Put your phone or tablet in the rig and open Reframely in its browser, then tap Open prompter.
- Tap the sliders icon and choose Your rig: Tablet in a glass rig for the X12, X14 and X17 with a tablet, or Phone in a glass rig if you're using a phone.
- Raise the screen brightness to the maximum.
- On your other phone, open Reframely, tap Remote and enter the code.
Neewer X1 Pro II
The 9-inch X1 Pro II works with iOS and Android devices and includes a remote that starts, pauses and changes speed; a review notes it relies on a separate teleprompter app, so the experience depends on the app you pick (Review). Use the tablet or phone preset to match your device.
Neewer X11
The X11 has a built-in 9-inch screen that can mirror a phone over a cable or act as a computer's second monitor (Neewer). Connect it as a display, drag the Reframely window onto it and choose Elgato Prompter or a prompter with its own screen.
Will the Neewer remote work with Reframely?
It depends on how your remote connects. Pair it in your device's Bluetooth settings, then open Clicker setup and press its buttons. If each press shows up, assign it to play, speed or line jumps. If nothing appears, that remote only talks to Neewer's own app, and your second phone is the better remote. See teleprompter remote not working for more checks.
Questions
Do I need a Neewer account to use my Neewer teleprompter?
Not with Reframely. It runs in the browser without signing in, and scripts are saved on the device.
Can I keep the Neewer app installed?
Yes. Reframely doesn't conflict with it. If the Neewer remote is connected to the Neewer app, close that app before testing the remote in Reframely.
Does Reframely work on Android with a Neewer rig?
Yes. Use Chrome on Android. Voice follow also works there.
