An app for VEVOR and unbranded teleprompters

Marketplaces are full of low-cost teleprompters with no brand name, a vague "app control" promise, or an app that's hard to find. Any glass teleprompter works with a good app, and Reframely is free in the browser.

Step by step: set up a glass teleprompter rig

  1. Lay the screen under the glass. Put your phone or tablet face up in the tray, under the angled glass. The camera sits behind the glass and films straight through it.
  2. Pick your rig in Reframely. Open the sliders and choose Your rig. Tablet or Phone in a glass rig mirrors the text, so it reads the right way round in the glass.
  3. Turn the brightness all the way up. Beam-splitter glass passes only part of the light, so the reflection is dimmer than the screen. Full brightness and a darker room keep the words crisp.
  4. Check it through the camera. Look at the camera’s screen, not the tablet. If the hood’s edge shows in a wide shot, zoom in a little or widen the side margins. Then pair a clicker or your phone and press play.

What's out there

Online marketplaces carry a long list of unbranded and lesser-known teleprompters, from VEVOR desktop and floor units to generic "app control" kits and large MOGX studio bundles. Many have few or no reviews, and the listing rarely says which app to use.

Set up any glass teleprompter

  1. Put your phone or tablet under the glass and open Reframely in its browser. Tap Open prompter.
  2. Choose Your rig: Tablet in a glass rig or Phone in a glass rig. If the text reads backward through the glass, toggle Mirror.
  3. Move the reading line until the highlighted band sits in front of your lens.
  4. Pair the included clicker in Bluetooth settings and press each button in Clicker setup to see what it sends, or use a phone as the remote.

Check these before you blame the rig

  • Glass orientation: teleprompter glass usually has one coated side. If you see a faint double image, try turning the glass over.
  • Brightness: budget glass often passes less light; turn the screen all the way up.
  • Remote pairing: many generic remotes pair directly as a Bluetooth keyboard and need no app. If nothing shows in Clicker setup, see remote not working.

How to tell what you bought

Unbranded listings often leave out the details that matter. Check these before you set up:

CheckWhy it matters
Glass or acrylic?Acrylic is lighter but reflects less and scratches; keep brightness high and clean it gently.
Largest device it holdsDecides whether a phone or a tablet goes under the glass, and which Reframely preset to pick.
Remote typeA Bluetooth "selfie" or presenter remote usually sends key presses that Clicker setup can use.
MountMost use a 1/4-inch tripod screw; heavier kits need rails or a sturdy tripod.

"App control" with an app you can't find

Some listings promise app control without naming the app, or name one that's been removed from the store. You don't need it: any glass teleprompter only needs mirrored, scrolling text on the screen underneath, which Reframely provides in the browser.

Questions

Which app do I use with an unbranded teleprompter?

Any teleprompter app that mirrors text. Reframely runs in the browser, so you don't need to find the seller's app.

Will the cheap remote that came with it work?

Often yes, because many act like a Bluetooth keyboard. Test it in Reframely's Clicker setup.
