Free software for the Leeventi teleprompter

Leeventi sells a tablet and phone teleprompter in several versions. Its own software comes with a one-year license; Reframely is a free option that runs in the tablet's browser and keeps working after that.

Step by step: set up a glass teleprompter rig

  1. Lay the screen under the glass. Put your phone or tablet face up in the tray, under the angled glass. The camera sits behind the glass and films straight through it.
  2. Pick your rig in Reframely. Open the sliders and choose Your rig. Tablet or Phone in a glass rig mirrors the text, so it reads the right way round in the glass.
  3. Turn the brightness all the way up. Beam-splitter glass passes only part of the light, so the reflection is dimmer than the screen. Full brightness and a darker room keep the words crisp.
  4. Check it through the camera. Look at the camera’s screen, not the tablet. If the hood’s edge shows in a wide shot, zoom in a little or widen the side margins. Then pair a clicker or your phone and press play.

What's in the box

Leeventi has sold several versions, from 4.0 to 6.0, for phones, tablets and cameras, controlled by remote or app. Leeventi's page for the 5.0 lists a 30 × 40 cm reflective glass with a 28 × 19 cm reflective area, an included remote with a foot remote sold separately, and its Voice-teleprompter software with a one-year license (Leeventi).

One buyer quoted on that page says the printed instructions have no pictures and they followed a YouTube video instead (Leeventi).

Run it with Reframely

  1. Assemble the rig with the glass angled toward the camera, and put the tablet or phone on the base, screen up.
  2. Open Reframely in the device's browser, tap Open prompter and choose Your rig → Tablet in a glass rig (or Phone in a glass rig). This mirrors the text and moves the reading line to the lens.
  3. Pair the Leeventi remote in the device's Bluetooth settings and test its buttons in Clicker setup. If a button does nothing there, pair a second phone as the remote instead.
  4. Fit the script to your take length with the editor's Fit to box, and turn on voice follow if you'd rather the script waited for you.

When the Leeventi software is the better choice

  • You want the vendor's remote and app supported together by one company.
  • You already use its projection features and don't mind renewing the license.

Otherwise, Reframely gives you mirroring, rig presets and section jumps for free, and a phone remote and voice follow with Reframely Pro ($10 for 7 days or $99 a year).

Assembly tips

  • Fit the glass with its coated side facing you; if you see a faint double image, it's probably reversed.
  • Angle the glass at 45 degrees, leaning toward the camera, so the screen below reflects straight toward your eyes.
  • Close the hood around the lens before checking the frame.

Tablet or phone?

With the larger Leeventi versions, a tablet gives bigger text and a longer reading distance. Use the tablet preset. If you put a phone on the base instead, choose Phone in a glass rig so the text is sized for the smaller screen.

Foot control

Leeventi sells a foot remote separately. Any foot pedal that sends key presses works in Reframely's Clicker setup, which is useful for presenters who need their hands free.

Questions

Does the Leeventi teleprompter need its own app?

No. Any teleprompter app that can mirror text works. Leeventi includes its own software with a one-year license, and Reframely is a browser alternative whose teleprompter is free.

Which Reframely preset fits the Leeventi?

Use Tablet in a glass rig for an iPad or tablet, and Phone in a glass rig for a smartphone.

Will the Leeventi remote work with Reframely?

If it pairs as a Bluetooth keyboard-style remote, yes, for free; check its buttons in Clicker setup. Otherwise a second phone can be the remote with Reframely Pro.
