A free teleprompter for Android

Whether it's a Pixel, a Samsung Galaxy or an Android tablet in a rig, Reframely runs in Chrome with every feature, and another phone of any kind can be the remote.

Set it up

  1. Open Reframely in Chrome on the Android device that will show the script.
  2. Tap Open prompter, then the sliders icon, then Your rig to match your setup.
  3. Tap the Chrome menu and choose Add to Home screen to open it like an app, full screen.
  4. Pair a second phone, Android or iPhone, as the remote with the code.

Android-specific tips

  • Bluetooth remotes: pair them in Android's Bluetooth settings. Reframely doesn't need Location Services to use a clicker, unlike some brand apps (Neewer).
  • Battery saver: turn it off while recording; it can slow animations and dim the screen.
  • Samsung Internet works too, but Chrome is the safest choice for voice follow.
  • Test any clicker before buying an app; compatibility varies between apps and remotes (Guide).

Get the most out of an Android phone or tablet

Android devices differ more than iPhones do, so a few settings are worth checking before a shoot:

  • Screen timeout. Reframely asks Chrome to keep the screen awake while the prompter is open. Some phones still dim after a while on battery saver or "adaptive" modes; set the screen timeout to 10 minutes or more for long recordings.
  • Brightness. Turn off adaptive brightness under glass. The glass passes only part of the light, and an automatic setting tends to dim the screen exactly when you need it bright.
  • Do Not Disturb. Turn it on before recording, so a notification banner doesn't cover your next line.
  • Split screen. On a tablet you can run Reframely next to another app, such as notes, but for recording give it the whole screen.

Which device shows the script and which is the remote?

Put the device with the bigger, brighter screen in the rig or under the camera, and use the smaller one as the remote. A Galaxy Tab or Pixel Tablet in a glass rig with a phone in your hand is a common setup. Reframely doesn't care about the brand mix: an Android tablet can be run from an iPhone and the other way round.

Recording on the same phone

If the phone that shows the script is also the camera, choose Your rig → Phone front camera, no rig. The reading line moves to the top, near the selfie camera, and the text gets smaller so your eyes travel less. For a finished vertical video with captions, our sister app ClippCut records with the script under the lens.
